I love celebrating birthdays because they are exciting and fun. On your birthday you wake up with a little bounce in your step because it’s your special day. This Friday was my boyfriend’s birthday, so we celebrated with dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, Ginza. The atmosphere at Ginza is great with clean lines, glass walls, a modern bar, and a upscale take on Asian decoration. You will feel like you are in a chic Manhattan restaurant, but you’ll really be on Long Island. Ginza is an asian-fusion restaurant with delicious cocktails, sushi for me, and cooked entrees for him.

On Saturday, I went to bridal shower at a small italian restaurant. I decided to get creative with my gift because really how exciting are things from Bed Bath and Beyond? Not at all. So I did what anyone would do, went to Pinterest to find some ideas. I created this cake full of kitchen supplies using: a tart pan, dish towels, measuring spoons, a whisk, a peeler, Calphalon grip anywhere utensils, and a little bit of love in a heart card. Not only was it fun doing something creative, but it also allowed me to cross one more thing off my 101 in 1001  list. After some bridal shower games, chicken marsala, and cake, it was on to the next one.

By next one I mean the Islanders vs. Rangers game at Nassau Coliseum.

I love ice hockey and the NY Islanders. The atmosphere at the Coliseum was intense as we continued the fight for a spot in the Playoffs. It was sold out, loud, and full of energy from excited fans. After a little tailgating and harmless Rangers trash talk with friends, the game began. My Islander pride and excitement went through the roof as the scoreboard began flashing, “This is Islanders Territory.” It was a great game that remained 0:0 until overtime. My boys fought hard…and then the Rangers scored with less than 2 minutes left in overtime. I really thought it was going to come to a shoot out, so I was a little sad. But it was still a great game and I am very happy that the NY Islanders still got 1 point. During the game some Ranger fans began to chant “Brooklyn Brooklyn” and all I could think was we don’t care. First of all I wouldn’t mind traveling to Brooklyn for my favorite team and second of all I am happy to go because if they haven’t notices the Coliseum is a dump! Enough said.

After the game we went out for birthday drinks with friends, which is always a good time! And today it was back to reality.

Tuesdays with Morrie

180px-Tuesdays_with_Morrie_book_coverSometimes you read a book and you feel like it was meant for you. This is when you tell yourself, “The author wrote this book for me!” I love when you pick up the perfect book at the perfect time and it feels like a life-changer. I absolutely love Tuesdays with Morrie. I think it is a must read for everyone. Not only do I love this book but so do others. While reading this book on a plane, the flight attendant walking by stopped and said, “isn’t that book the best.” Then while waiting in the airport for my flight back to NY, I saw another passenger deeply enthralled in the book. I couldn’t help but smile for my fellow passenger because I knew he was in the middle of a great experience.

Favorite Quotes:

“Accept who you are; and revel in it.”

“The problem, Mitch, is that we don’t believe we are as much alike as we are. Whites and blacks, Catholics and Protestants, men and women. If we saw each other as more alike, we might be very eager to join in one big human family in this world, and to care about that family the way we care about our own.

But believe me, when you are dying, you see it is true. We all have the same beginning – birth – and we all have the same end – death. So how different can we be?
Invest in the human family. Invest in people. Build a little community of those you love and who love you.”

“Don’t let go too soon, but don’t hang on too long.”

“People are only mean when they are threatened.”

“Love wins, love always wins.”
